MOVE Week

Posted: Thursday 01 January 1970

MOVE week in 2013 which will take place from 7-13th October and be bigger and better than before.

In 2012 ISCA (the International Sport and Culture Association) launched MOVE Week as part of a campaign to get 100million more Europeans moving between 2012 and 2020 to raise the physical activity levels of the continent. With the backing of high profile sponsors like Eurosport and Coca-Cola this initiatives takes place on the first full week of October each year and on 1st-7th October 2012 the first MOVE week was held. This first week involved a number of European countries and grassroots sport organisations and a summary of those involved and some of the activities that took place can be found in the attachment 'MOVE 2012 Summary'.

Now in its second year ISCA are starting to release details for MOVE week in 2013 which will take place from 7-13th October and be bigger and better than before. MOVE week is all about community sport and therefore fits in well with the work of Local Sports Councils. SALSC is keen to work with ISCA to explore how Scotland can get involved and what incentives/opportunities there are for LSCs that take up the challenge and get involved. A meeting took place involving ISCA, SALSC and other Scottish partners on April 17th from which the attached information has been obtained to help spread the word.

A follow up meeting has been scheduled for 29th May at which ISCA will be able to better identify the resources available to those wanting to get involved and the Scottish partners hope to identify a nationwide plan for engaging Scotland's population.

For the moment this email is simply to keep members informed of MOVE Week and to let them know that it will be taking place from 7-13th October 2013. If your Local Sports Council is already planning an activity that can fall in this week or would be interested in putting one on then why not add the MOVE brand to it and maybe your event could feature on Eurosport.

I will be in touch with more details at the end of May/start of June once more is known but in the meantime, if you have any questions then please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Kind regards,

Oliver
