Numbers up for clubsportnl Half Marathon.

Delivered under the banner of clubsportnl, the organisation representing the voluntary sector across North Lanarkshire, this year’s “clubsportnl” Half Marathon got off to a flying start with a record165 competitors testing their stamina  pounding the pavements of Coatbridge and beyond on a mild Sunday morning at Drumpellier Country Park.  Complementing the main race was North Lanarkshire Leisure’s 5k run and the 1k fun runs which proved to be a great hit once again with over 100 children from P5, P6 & P7 demonstrating their athletic ability on the 1k course.

clubsportnl Chairman, Joe McAdam, said, “Considering the number of other races taking place elsewhere I am delighted with the excellent turnout across the three events and wish to extend a big thanks to all those volunteers who support this annual event and I look forward to it growing year on year. Joe added that we would like to extend a great big thank you to our water sponsors Highland Spring who are supporters of a number events across North Lanarkshire throughout the year”

Blane Dodds, Chief Executive of North Lanarkshire Leisure commented “North Lanarkshire Leisure is proud to support this local event which demonstrates excellent partnership working across all sectors of the community”. He also added “North Lanarkshire Leisure are fully committed to supporting clubsportnl and look forward to working with them in the future to ensure that they receive all the support and acknowledgement they rightly deserve”.

A major factor in the success of this event is the continuing sponsorship provided by the principal sponsor, Time Capsule. clubsportnl are also delighted that both North Lanarkshire Leisure and North Lanarkshire Council once again supported this community event and look forward to building on this for future events. This year was also special as the event was supported by “Celebrating Lanarkshire 2013.”

Celebrating Lanarkshire 2013 recognises and celebrates our region's achievements over the last 200 years. 2013 is also the bicentenary of the birth of Dr. David Livingstone, one of the world's most famous missionary explorers who was born in Lanarkshire. Join in our celebrations and discover why Lanarkshire is a great place to live, work and visit.

The Head of Supercounty John Scott said “I was delighted to be asked to attend and present medals at this year’s Monklands Half Marathon in what is our Celebrating Lanarkshire 2013 year. I think the organisers and volunteers should be very proud for running what was a very welcoming and professionally run event as the majority of people I spoke to who had participated vowed to return again next year. Lanarkshire has enjoyed a proud sporting heritage and produced some of the countries finest sportsmen and women over the last 200 years and I am sure that this will continue over the next 200 years. I know that many Lanarkshire residents were inspired by the London Olympics last year and are doing their bit by becoming fit, active and healthy in the run up to next year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and events such as this are the lifeblood of Scottish Sport by providing suitable competitive opportunities and outlets for runners to aim their training towards”.

Thanks are also extended to the member clubs of clubsportnl who assisted in providing race stewards on the day, St Andrew’s Ambulance Association and the 2ndCoatbridge Scout Group / Airdrie Harriers for manning the water stations.
