XS Taekwon-do Students competed at the recent Unified ITF WORLD Championships at the University of Hertfordshire campus on the outskirts of London and they proved once again that they had the X Factor by achieving outstanding results.

From the youngest to the oldest the quality of performance was of an exceptional standard proving that XS Taekwondo has something for everyone.

The UITF World Championships were held over a three day timetable at the De Havilland campus with 21 countries competing from as far as South Africa, USA, Australia and Argentina.

Miss Marie McAneny (5thdegree International Instructor) led her 23 strong team of both Black Belt and Coloured Belt students of all ages to compete. The weekend proceedings began on the Thursday evening with the “weigh in”. Following the team brief a presentation was made to Miss McAneny to celebrate the 20thAnniversary of the club. It was a very emotional moment with a few tears evident.

On Friday morning the competitors with the support team arrived at the venue to find the atmosphere was electric with everyone enjoying themselves amidst some nerves.

The competition commenced with the Black Belt students showing an extremely high standard overall. The atmosphere was highly charged when Mr Stuart Odell became our first World Champion winning the Gold medal for Black Belt Adult male patterns. This was followed by Mr Jamie Phillip winning the Gold medal in the veteran Adult Black Belt male sparring.

Then came the Team events which had everyone on the edge of their seats as the pace was really fast with our Black Belt Adult male team performing well and achieved Silver medal for Power and Bronze medals for patterns and special techniques.
