Monklands Half Marathon 2017

clubsportnl are delighted to announce that the Beatson Cancer Charity will be the official charity partner for this year’s Monklands Half Marathon.

The event will take place on Sunday, 14th May 2017 and will once again be a joint initiative between North Lanarkshire Leisure Ltd and North Lanarkshire Council.

Martin Holmes, clubsportnl’s chairman said: “We are absolutely delighted to be partnering with the Beatson Cancer Charity for this year’s event which is a fitting tribute to Frank who was involved in the Half Marathon over 25 years.”

Cllr Jim Logue, Leader of North Lanarkshire Council and NLL Board member, added: “Once again, we are really pleased to be working in partnership with clubsportnl to deliver this year’s half marathon and associated events which, further demonstrate NLL’s commitment to supporting local voluntary sport who contribute so much to local communities.

“We fully recognise the invaluable role that the voluntary sector play in provide opportunities for all to participate in sport and physical activity whilst improving their health and wellbeing.”

A new veteran’s trophy will be introduced this year for the 40+ age group in memory of clubsportnl’s long serving treasurer Frank Burns who sadly passed away in 2016.

Participants in all races shall receive a new bespoke medal and there will be a trophy and cash prize for the first three finishers from both the male and female category in the half marathon.

The start and finish area, car parking and changing facilities for the event will be within St. Ambrose High School campus in Coatbridge. The Drumpellier 5k road race will start at Lochview Family golf centre which is approx. a 5 minute walk from the school.  Both the Half Marathon and 5k will start at 10.30am prompt.

The children’s events will include a 100m toddler dash for children under 5 years old, a 400m dash for the Primary 1 to Primary 4 age group and a 1k fun run for Primary 5 to Primary 7. All participants will receive a medal, fruit and water on finishing.

Entry fees for the half marathon are £13.00 for those affiliated to Scottish Athletics Ltd and £15.00 for non-affiliated runners. Entry to the 5k will be £5.00 for those affiliated to Scottish Athletics Ltd and £7.00 for non-affiliated runners. All children’s races will be charged at £3.

We are also offering a half marathon technical race t-shirt for an additional £5.

The closing date for online and postal entries is Monday 8th May 2017.  All entry forms are now available within North Lanarkshire’s sports facilities, by request through email to or alternatively by telephoning 01236 341968.
