Lynn Calder wins British Title

Posted: Friday 22 June 2018

Springhill ABC boxer and reigning Scottish champion Lynn Calder has won her first British title, making history for the Shotts club in the progress.

Representing Scotland at the British Tri-Nations tournament in Sheffield on Saturday and Sunday, Calder dispatched both of England’s best boxers to become Springhill’s first ever female British champion.

In the 64kg semi-final on Saturday, Calder came up against England’s number one Xian Blackman-Price.

The 31-year-old won that bout on a unanimous decision after dominating her opponent.

The Shotts scrapper then came up against England number two Adrienne Pheobe, who again Calder beat on a unanimous decision.

Her coach Frank Delaney was over the moon for Calder.

He said: “She totally dominated the semi-final from start to finish. The final Lynn was as good as I’ve ever seen her. She kept her composure really well and completely dominated the fight.

“I’m made up for her. She puts a lot into it and trains hard, travels a lot, it isn’t easy.

“She thoroughly deserves her success.”
