Wishaw Games 2011

This year’s Wishaw Games took place over the weekend of 13th & 14th August at Wishaw Sports Centre, with the Games continuing to be one of Scotland’s premier multi-sports competitions for people with physical and learning disabilities. Now in its 21st year, the Games attracted over 300 competitors from all over Scotland competing in a variety of disciplines.

In addition to support from North Lanarkshire Council and North Lanarkshire Leisure Ltd, local businesses throughout the area have also come on board to assist the Games; Rotary International of Scotland (in particular the Motherwell & Wishaw Rotary Club): Wishaw & District Housing Assoc: Thomas Tunnock Ltd: Forsyth Produce Direct.

The Games kicked off on Saturday 13th at 10am with Carpet Bowls, Table Tennis, Boccia, and Athletics and the official opening was carried out by Depute Provost Jim Robertson at 12.45pm prior to the start of the Athletics programme.

Once again this year the Bowling event attracted sponsorship from Wishaw & District Housing Association, they also presented a trophy to the best overall team in the bowling competition with this year’s winners being Prestonpans Disabled Bowling Club.

The Swimming Gala took place on Sunday, 14th with a full programme of 72 events throughout the course of the day.

Wishaw Games Trust would also like to thank and acknowledge the support of North Lanarkshire Leisure’s, Future Job Fund Team, Volunteers pupils’ from local schools and clubsportnl.
