Delivered under the banner of clubsportnl, the new organisation representing the voluntary sector across North Lanarkshire, this year’s “clubsportnl” Half Marathon got off to a flying start with 111 competitors testing their stamina pounding the pavements of Coatbridge and beyond on a very wet and blustery Sunday morning at Drumpellier Country Park. Complimenting the main race, North Lanarkshire Leisure’s 5k run attracted 37 participants at all levels and in order to ensure full community involvement, the 1k fun runs proved to be a great hit once again with over 170 children from P5, P6 & P7 demonstrating their athletic ability on the 1k course.
clubsportnl Chairman, Joe McAdam, said, “Considering the adverse weather and other races taking place elsewhere I am delighted with the excellent turnout across the three events and wish to extend a big thanks to all those volunteers who support this annual event and I look forward to it growing year on year.”
Blane Dodds, Chief Executive of North Lanarkshire Leisure commented “North Lanarkshire Leisure is proud to support this local event which demonstrates excellent partnership working across all sectors of the community”. He also added “North Lanarkshire Leisure are fully committed to supporting clubsportnl and look forward to working with them in the future to ensure that they receive all the support and acknowledgement they rightly deserve”
A major factor in the success of this event is the continuing sponsorship provided by the principal sponsor, Time Capsule. clubsportnl are also delighted that both North Lanarkshire Leisure and North Lanarkshire Council once again supported this community event and look forward to building on this for future events.
Thanks are also extended to the member clubs of clubsportnl who assisted in providing race stewards on the day, St Andrew’s Ambulance Association and the 2ndCoatbridge Scout Group / Airdrie Harriers for manning the water stations.
